Old Denim Jeans (Tip for Today)
Hello,
Do you have any old jeans that you do not wear anymore? Maybe? It is too short for you? Why don’t you recycle your jeans and make a skirt, Capri pants, shorts, or a beach bag with it. You could do so many things with your old jeans. You just have to use your creative ideas.
To Make a Skirt:
1. Rip the seams of the jeans’ legs with a sewing ripper 2. If you want a long skirt, you could add a nice piece of fabric, more denim or leather in the center seam allowance of the leg to stitch together. Place fabric under the seam allowance of the denim leg then stitch together. Now you could hem the skirt with 1 1/2" by hand or by machine. Now you have a beautiful long skirt.
If you use another piece of denim you could do some art on the denim, put glitter, do embroidery, paint, do some patch work or whatever you desire. Just get creative.
3. If you prefer to make a short skirt, you will have to rip the seams to open the legs then cut the jeans to your desired length. Then you could add the remainder of denim to the center seam allowance, stitch together to make a short skirt.
You could sew this by machine or hand. Get creative, do some fancy design on the center of the short denim skirt. You could use glitter, do artwork, sew a few pieces of leather on the center of the skirt.
Capri Pant Or Shorts:
1. Measure the length with a tape measure to whatever length you prefer, short, below the knees or the mid calf. Now you have to hem the shorts or Capri pant. Leave 1 1/2" for a hem by hand or you could hem, by sewing machine. If you want, you could get creative.
Beach Bag:
1. Measure from crotch to get 7" plus 1/2" for seam allowance, then cut off the legs of jeans with your ripper, rip the center seam of the legs, stitch together, leave 1/2" for seam allowance, stitch the bottom of the bag to close. Cut the remainder of fabric about 5" wide and the length about 26" long for the strap. If you do not have enough for length, you could use the rest of jeans’ fabric to stitch together to get a longer length. Fold the strap width so you will have 21/2" sew at 1/2" seam allowance, leave one end open, turn the inside out with a scissors, smooth out the seam with iron. Stitch both sides of straps to make it neat and stronger. Put the end of each strap onto the waistline of jeans. Leave 1" seam allowance. To sew straps onto the waistline of jeans bag. Place the strap’s 2" away from the two front loops on the jean waist. You could rip off the loops from the waist line or leave them. That’s up to you.
I must tell you that you will be happy with your creation. This could be a fun project.
